OUTREACH PROJECT

"What is a Scientist?" Dolores (Dorrie) Lamb, Ph.D./1980/Sanborn, tells us all about it and more as she brings the 1st GSBS Alumni Association Outreach Project to 150 fifth graders at the Sylvan Rodriguez Elementary School for Science and Medicine. Click below to access her program on the nature of a scientist and some very eye-opening work with stem cells.

Energetic alumnus Steven Lott, Ph.D. (1997), spearheaded a presentation he, Ann Killary, Ph.D. (1980), Yvonne Rodriguez, and Yan Xie, Ph.D. made recently to 150 fifth graders at Sylvan Rodriguez Elementary School.

Below: Spring 2006, Joan Breuer-McHam, Ph.D. (1999/Duvic) lead 4th graders at Sylvan Rodriguez Elementary School in her interactive lesson to teach them immunology basics.  Since then, Dr. Breuer-McHam has been invited to present the lesson that she used to the Texas School Conference, and has turned the presentation into a manuscript “Bubbles, Giggles, Sparkles and Immunology” to be considered for publication by Science & Children.

They provided interactive experiments in conjunction with the national recognition of the 50th anniversary of James Watson and Francis Crick's discovery of the structure of DNA.
