GS010213 Introduction to Mathematical Probability
Zhang, Li. Three semester hours. Fall annually. Prerequisite:
consent of instructor
This course provides an introduction to elementary probability
theory. The course discusses the history of probability theory and presents
the basic ideas of probability theory in an axiomatic framework. The idea
of a probability space is presented, and the idea of a random variable
is given. Also included are conditioning and independence, and an introduction
to Markov chains. The course also presents the idea of a function of a
random variable and how to find its distribution and moments. Finally,
the course presents probability distributions (discrete and continuous).
