GS030102   Current Methods in Molecular Research

Blackburn, Michael. Two semester hours. Fall annually. Prerequisite: consent of instructor

This course provides an introduction to current methods for the study of biomolecules, including proteins and nucleic acids. Lectures focus on the theory, instrumentation, practical applications with specific examples, and the advantages, disadvantages and limitations of each method. Methods used primarily for the study of nucleic acids will be presented and will include protein expression systems, nucleic acid hybridization, PCR, genomic and cDNA cloning, antibody techniques, transfection, transgenic models, site‑directed mutagenesis and enzymes as tools in molecular biology research.
