GS210051 The Ethical Dimensions of the Biomedical
Sciences
Erwin, Cheryl. One semester hour. Fall annually. Prerequisite:
none
This course examines the ethical concepts and traditions
that undergird biomedical science. It explores such issues as commitment
to truth and its breakdown in self-deception and fraud, the ethics of
authorship, experimentation with human and animal subjects, responsibilities
of scientists to society; science's relationship with industry; and the
consequences of technologic advances from scientific learning. The course's
aim is to teach students to recognize ethical conflicts and problems in
their professional lives and to provide a framework within which to analyze
and resolve them. This course is required for graduation from all degree
programs at GSBS.
