STUDENT BODY DEMOGRAPHICS

GSBS has an enrollment of 400-500, with equal numbers of men and women and a multi-ethnic student body. Approximately 70% are domestic students (see US Map), with roughly equal numbers of Texas residents and those from other states, and 30% are international students (see World Map) from many different countries.

The majority of students have undergraduate or master’s degrees in chemistry or biology, but significant numbers have backgrounds in psychology, physics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or other areas. Students apply from all types of institutions, including private liberal arts colleges and public and private institutions of various types and size, including the largest research intensive universities.

Admission is based primarily upon a student’s potential for a successful career in biomedical science, rather than undergraduate major or institution. GSBS also has a flexible approach to admissions that provides the opportunity for students without a specific prerequisite(s) to meet the requirement after matriculation if they are otherwise well qualified.
