Research Interests: Targeted drug delivery; respiratory drug delivery; computational methods in biomedicine; targeted delivery of contrast agents for various imaging modalities
Research in my laboratory is directed towards new techniques for delivery of drugs and contrast agents to target tissues with a high level of specificity, and a minimization of side effects. We approach this class of problems with a combination of (1) computational simulations to understand the physics and chemistry, (2) synthetic chemistry and nanofabrication to build appropriate agent carriers and devices, (3) in vitro and in vivo testing of the prepared constructs, and (4) constant revision of our quantitative theoretical basis for the original designs. Our achievements include the development of technology to enable patient-specific aerosol delivery protocols, and a new class of blood-pool contrast agents for CT.
Depending on the student's interests, a tutorial in my laboratory would provide experience with computational methods in biomedicine, or chemistry/engineering methods to fabricate new classes of nanoparticle based drug and contrast agent carriers.
