Research Interests: Animal models of human disease; cancer biology; organotypic keratinocyte culture; comparative pathology; dermatopathology; cytopathology

The majority of my research involves comparative medicine, specifically animal models of human disease. My areas of expertise include; DNA sequencing, cross-hybridization strategies, cDNA microarray analysis and data mining, real-time RT-PCR, primary cell culture, organotypic keratinocyte culture, and flow cytometry. I have worked on animal species with limited genetic information and few perfected protocols. Consequently, I have become adept at modifying existing procedures to work effectively with non-traditional species. As a pathologist, I am frequently involved with immunohistochemistry and phenotyping cancers and cell lines.

As a faculty member with both service and research responsibilities, I do not have a laboratory, but work in collaboration with Drs. Feng Wang-Johanning and Gary Johanning. Tutorials in their laboratories could involve animal cancer models, immunotherapy, cell culture, gene expression, DNA methylation and other molecular biology techniques
