Research Interests: Transcription, cell cycle, signal transduction, oncogenes, tumor promotion, skin cancer
My lab is studying the transcriptional regulation of genes involved in growth regulation of cancer cells. A major theme is the involvement of oncogenes in signal transduction and as transcription factors. These studies use cell culture and animal models, as well as molecular and biochemical assays of DNA-protein interactions and gene transcription. Current projects include transcriptional regulation of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors in a Xiphophorus fish melanoma model, and regulation of FoxO transcription factors. For details, see our lab home page: http://sciencepark.mdanderson.org/labs/butler/
A tutorial in my lab would provide experience in a variety of approaches for study of transcriptional regulation in cancer cells, including luciferase reporter gene assays, site-directed mutagenesis, RT-PCR, sequence analysis, Western and Northern blotting.
