Research Interests:

The goal of my research is to improve our understanding of how steroid hormones affect development, growth and tumorigenesis and to identify pivotal molecular targets involved in these processes. This work utilizes in vitro and in vivo model systems to examine the tissue-specific activity of hormonal agents on the breast, uterus and other responsive organs. In addition to basic information on signal transduction pathways, this research will provide insight into the mechanism of action of endogenous and synthetic receptor ligands, including therapeutic candidates and environmental toxicants, at the cellular and molecular level.

A tutorial in my laboratory would provide experience with evaluations of mammary development and differentiation at the tissue, cellular and molecular level as well as the use of animal models to assess biological function. In addition, the student would be introduced to basic concepts in endocrinology and hormone action and gain experience with immunohistochemistry, western blotting, RNA and DNA extraction, traditional and quantitative PCR and confocal microscopy.
