Research Interests:
My laboratory research interests involve maternal and perinatal infections with group B streptococcus and bacterial vaginosis. These studies have focused on the development of antibiotic resistance and the maternal immune response. Clinical research interests include maternal and perinatal infections with syphilis and herpes simplex type II. These studies have focused on the epidemiology of infection and on interventions to reduce vertical transmission.
Students in genetic counseling would gain experience in the design
and execution of studies relating to a wide range of prenatal diagnosis issues.
Diverse thesis ideas include: evaluation of patient perception of risk, new
strategies to convey risk information to patients, use of antibiotics during
pregnancy, and barriers to care among indigent women.
